A celebrity with indie cred risks everything to rescue a celebrity who’s sold out to the establishment in the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1. That’s what these movies are really about, right? The power of marketing and controlling the use of your own image? Try to imagine that Jennifer Lawrence is using explosive arrows on the a-hole(s) who stole her highly personal photographs and it all starts to make sense.

For those of us who haven’t read the novels this new trailer has a few surprises. The usually flamboyantly dressed Effie Trinket has toned things down, wearing no make-up and tasteful black clothing, implying that she’s joined the revolution (whether or not she had much choice, as the PR person to the face of the uprising, is less clear). It also appears as though Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) will finally get to actually do something after two whole movies, and that Peeta Melark (Josh Hutcherson) has joined President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in an attempt to save the status quo. We don’t believe that for a second, of course. He’s too cute to be bad.
Fans of the books, let the rest of us know… are there any details we should be paying attention to? Is there a big hint we noobies might have missed?
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 hits theaters on November 21, 2014. You can buy your tickets nearly a month early, on October 29.
