“True Detective,” one of the most popular HBO series on the air today, is gearing up for season 2 – last year’s stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson took the lead in the first season of the show, and this season, viewers can see Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn on the case.
HBO Canada confirmed that the eight-episode hour-long drama is set to begin production later this fall in California and will follow three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. Renowned director Justin Lin (“Fast and the Furious” franchise) will direct the first two episodes.
Vaughn, who has been rumoured to be involved in “True Detective” for months now, will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. Farrell will take on the role of Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed.
