A new on-demand video streaming service, shomi (a joint venture between Shaw and Rogers), is launching today in Canada – new subscribers are being offered a free 30-day introductory trial.
The monthly fee will then be $8.99 per month. Viewers will have access to a range of premium content that includes hit television series and movies.
“For the past few weeks, we’ve had a rolling thunder of content announcements that position shomi as the ultimate streaming destination with the must-have hit titles you can’t get on any other video streaming service in Canada,” said Marc Dinsdale, shomi’s general manage, in a statement (as reported by ET Canada). “We know what matters to entertainment lovers, and it was imperative to us to bring the human experience back to video entertainment. The more digital things become, the more human we need to be. By putting a face to the service in how we curate our content and collections – and not solely relying on algorithms – we are delivering the best of both worlds and giving our customers what they want.”
The article goes on to say that shomi has entered into exclusive content deals with studios like Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, Starz Digital Media, Warner Bros. International Television, BBC Worldwide North America, and Sony Pictures Television – in all more than 12,000 hours of content will be offered in its first year.
