BAFTA-nominated screenwriter John August has been contracted by CBS Films to pen the film adaptation of the well-known children’s scary story books Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
August has combined powers with Tim Burton on Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Big Fish, so the possibility of a future pitch of this idea to Tim Burton is indeed plausible.
Also, let’s consider the fact that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a short story collection released in three separate books, which CBS Films now owns the rights to, so there’s probably a wealth of potential film ideas within. So what we have here is a veritable smorgasbord of scary stories that’s being gobbled up by a fantastic writer, with the possibility of some even bigger names getting involved. If you loved these stories when you were younger, you should definitely be excited.
