Back in 2005, Warren Ellis’ comic book series Global Frequency landed a pilot at The WB with Michelle Forbes and Josh Hopkins in the leading roles. However, that pilot never went to series and it subsequently leaked online. A second attempt to bring “Global Frequency” to TV at The CW in 2009 didn’t even get a pilot order.
Nearly a decade after the original pilot was produced, “Global Frequency” is getting another chance on TV. According to Deadline, Fox has given “a large pilot production commitment” to “Global Frequency” with Jerry Bruckheimer attached as an executive producer and “Farscape” creator Rockne S. O’Bannon slated to write the pilot and serve as the showrunner.
Originally published as a twelve issue miniseries through DC Comics’ Wildstorm imprint, Global Frequency was secret organization of 1,001 operatives around the world with the unique skill sets needed to avert almost any crisis. The Global Frequency itself was overseen by the enigmatic Miranda Zero, a role that was played by Forbes in the original pilot.

For the new incarnation of “Global Frequency,” Bruckheimer and O’Bannon have apparently found a way to describe the premise in a way that Fox was easily able to grasp: “a privately funded crime-fighting operation that uses worldwide crowd-sourcing to solve crimes the police cannot.” The original Global Frequency wasn’t really a crime fighting organization, as it dealt with terrorism, advanced technology and threats that went beyond science.
“Global Frequency” will likely compete for a slot on Fox’s 2015 TV schedule, assuming that a pilot goes into production early next year.
