The Grey Cup, which turns 102 this year, will see the Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on the Calgary Stampeders in Vancouver at B.C. Place on Sunday.
The Ti-Cats, who had a rough start to their season, were able to finally pick things up, ending it with a 10-9 record. The Stamps had a much more impressive run with their games, finishing out the season 16-3.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson told CBC News, “…lots of arts and culture for the city and that is a real opportunity for people in Vancouver. A lot of people forget this isn’t just about the game.” However, reports are saying that there are still 4,300 tickets that are unsold for the Sunday evening game, which will feature halftime performer Imagine Dragons. “(Sales) are starting to pick up again,” said Jamie Pitblado, 102nd Grey Cup Festival general manager, on Wednesday to The Canadian Press. “We’re kind of where we want to be, where we expected to be. We’ve still got some work to do and we’re going to keep plugging away at it.”
The Grey Cup also earns its host city a nice chunk of extra pocket change. According to the CBC, the Grey Cup committee estimates the game will bring about $150 million to the city.
The Grey Cup starts at 6pm on Sunday, November 30th.
