You finally got some much-needed time off of work to spend on you, yourself, your family, and your home. Sure you could spend all the time off binge-watching shows on Netflix or playing video games. There’s nothing wrong with that – it is your time off. But maybe, just maybe you should do something productive with your time and get caught up on some things you’ve been putting off, or just get ahead on things you know you need to do.
Productive Things You Must Do on Holiday Break
Update Your Resume
We get it. You’re working what feels like 24/7, leaving little time to actually update your resume with all of the stuff the company added to your plate. Now that you can forget about your job responsibilities for the week, you can spend your break remembering your job responsibilities… to add them to your resume.
Clean Your House
We don’t mean just straightening up, either. We mean that deep clean you’ve been neglecting to do since… about this time the year before. Hmm. Clean out your closets, cabinets, organize your drawers. Throw away or donate anything around the house you don’t need or use anymore. Basically, do the deeds you keep putting off for an opportunity like Holiday break.
Scope Out Gyms
It happens to all of us. It’s the holidays, we’re eating everything in sight, and because it’s cold outside, we’ve not gone for our morning run… since June. The pounds are piling up around your midsection, and you’ve already made up your mind that your new year’s resolution is going to get fit. Take this time to start scoping out local gyms. Look for a happy medium between price and amenities. Pro-tip: If the gym is offering you free pizza nights, they probably don’t care about your health goals.
Do Some Shopping
After Christmas there are usually some decent sales as retailers look to clear out stock and clean up after the holiday rush. Plus, you have gift cards. So many gift cards. You might want to even spend them on cleaning supplies, or tools to complete that project we were talking about.
Play With Your Kids
As sad as this is, we often don’t have time to play with our kids since we’re so focused on work, and when we’re not working, getting errands and other mandatory tasks completed. They’ll love it, especially since they likely just got a bunch of new toys for Christmas for you to play with them with. It’ll be time that you’ll both cherish and remember for years to come.
Start That Project
Give your bedroom a new coat of paint. Re-tile your bathroom. Rent a crane to erect a shrine in your backyard. Too much? Yeah, too much. Whatever project you have been putting off, you now have no excuses. So suck it up, get some tools, get dirty, and get the job done. Just make sure you complete it before your break is over.
Catch Up on a Book
You don’t have to be into novels to enjoy a good book. There are plenty of self-help books aimed at bettering your skillset – something you can apply to your job once you’re back at the grind. But of course, there’s nothing wrong and curling up in bed to a good story, so you can lose yourself and forget about all the work stuff waiting for you for when you get back.
Just Relax
It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? But the one thing we all almost always forget to do, is relax. It’s holiday break for a reason, so… JUST. RELAX. It may not sound productive, but a well-rested body and mind will be more productive in general.
