For years, Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves have promised Bill & Ted fans that a third film is in development. That project may or may never happen, but the Bill & Ted franchise is returning to comics next year.
Boom! Studios (via Comic Book Resources) has released a teaser image for a new Bill & Ted comic book project featuring “Wyld Stallions,” the name of Bill and Ted’s band from the two feature films.
Within the context of the movies, Bill and Ted’s music was supposed to change the world for the better once they actually developed their talents. A time traveler from the future named Rufus (played in the films by the late George Carlin) gave the duo a phone booth time machine to help them realize their full potential and pass a history assignment.

Back in the ‘90s, Marvel released 12 issues of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Comic Book, with writer and artist Evan Dorkin continuing the story from the end of Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. In 2005, Slave Labor Graphics reprinted the Bill & Ted comics, but the franchise has been dormant in the comic book world for nearly a decade.
Presumably the new Bill & Ted licence at Boom! Studios means that a new creative team will produce a new comic. But Boom! hasn’t officially released any of the details at this time.
