It was a long day of silence from Techland, after rumors swirled about Dying Light being delayed for reasons as varied as the recent attacks in France to the game not being ready, but the developers behind the open world zombie survival game shed some light on the whole issue on Jan. 17.
In a statement posted to the Dying Light Facebook page, the developers wrote “There will be a short delay in the release of physical copies of Dying Light in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. The game will have a global digital release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC of January 27, 2015.”

The delay was originally thought to be isolated to France, leading to the speculation about its relation to the Charlie Hebdo attacks, after Micromania, a popular French video game retailer, confirmed the delay to CraveOnline. Techland’s announcement explains why the retailers stopped accepting pre-orders.
Techland cited the additional production time it takes for physical copies, though that doesn’t explain why this delay won’t be affecting North America. They also didn’t spell out what a “short delay” would mean, ending their statement with “We will share information on the availability of physical copies as soon as it is confirmed.”
Still no word on what this will mean for Dying Light‘s pre-order bonus for one weapon docket for each week prior to release the player pre-ordered. CraveOnline has followed up with Techland to address these questions and will update as soon as we receive a response.
