Star-Lord and Captain America Make a Superb Super Bowl Bet

While Marvel is mum about when the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers will ultimately converge in a mega team-up film, the stars of Guardians and Captain America are already connecting their own personal universes on Earth, for the most-watched television event of the year: the Super Bowl. It turns out that not only are Chris Pratt (Star-Lord in Guardians) and Chris Evans (Captain America) big fans of football, but their hometown teams are about to square off in the Super Bowl. And they have announced quite the bet.

Pratt was raised in Lake Stevens, Washington and is a huge Seattle Seahawks fan (he was even viewing from a private Seattle box with Macklemore and LEGO Movie‘s Chris Miller during the amazing — already classic — come-from-behind ‘Hawks win in the NFC Championship). Evans was born and raised in Boston. The game itself is steeped in a lot of interesting story-lines: the Seahawks are attempting to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champion since the New England Patriots pulled off that feat a decade ago. And the Patriots are attempting to win their first Super Bowl since 2005 (they’ve lost twice to the New York Giants after winning three NFL championships). And this might be the final chance for Tom Brady and Bill Belichick to win one more ring.

As we speak, the NFL and sports media has gone into investigation mode for #DeflateGate (the Patriots were caught deflating their game balls during a cold, wet AFC Championship game, giving them an advantage in throwing and catching — maybe). Which is now the biggest narrative of SB 49. But Pratt and Evans have seized the opportunity to do what all football fans do during that bye week between the conference and world championships: pump-out hot air. Blowout talk. Big wagers.

While their back and forth is very fun, there’s is also a wager for the children’s hospitals in each other’s respective hometowns. In full-Marvel costume. Awesome. Now this is some superhero shit talk! It’s for the kiddies! AMERICA! AMERICA!

Hmmm, impartiality might be harder to come by than we thought. Is Super Bowl 49 the unlikely beginning of the Marvel Civil War?
