The CBC has released a list of the best Canadian-made video games to check out in 2015 – indie games as well as a number of sequels made the cut.
According to the article, “The games coming out of Canada’s development scene show something different. Big budget sequels share the spotlight with independent studios showing off their creativity and pushing the boundaries of the medium.” Some of the titles to look for this year include:
“Below,” from Toronto-based independent studio Capy. Players become an unnamed warrior who is exploring a giant, mysterious island with unknown horrors hidden in a randomly generated maze at a slow but engaging pace.
“Severed,” from Drinkbox Studios, encourages participants to take control of a one-armed heroine wielding a living sword as she knits together pieces of her story from both the past and the future.
“Assassin’s Creed Victory,” a follow-up to “Assassin’s Creed Unity” from last year. This game is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
“Cuphead,” from the little-known Studio MDHR, is a 2D run ‘n’ gun extravaganza set in the style of a fighting game universe. The characters are inspired by cartoons of the 1930s.
“The Long Dark,” a first from Vancouver Island-based Hinterland Studios. This is a first-person post-disaster survival stimulation game.
“Knight and Damsel,” where the princess doesn’t want to be rescued and two players battle it out to ensure she isn’t. The full platform is slated to come out in the spring.
