You just never know with Ed Boon, creator of the Mortal Kombat series and director of Mortal Kombat X. While he continues to obviously troll us with tales of Twisted Metal‘s Sweet Tooth as a guest character (not happening), almost nothing he says can be trusted as legitimate information on his upcoming bone breaker. One such tweet is a tease for either Brutalities or Popeye, the Sailor Man.
Oh man….that’s BRUTAL! pic.twitter.com/njsVpkIg3m

Although the infamous spinach-loving sailor man would be a hilarious addition to the series, let’s not be so easily distracted by what’s obviously in play here. Brutalities, an alternative to fatalities that killed an opponent simply by beating them to death in various ways, originally appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and were planned for the 2011 Mortal Kombat before being scrapped due to time constraints.
Since the announcement of Mortal Kombat X, however, these destructive forces have been bound for a comeback. After last week’s Twitch stream by NetherRealm Studios, where they also announced that fan-favorite Jade would not be in the next installment, they ended the stream by saying that the next reveal would be “brutal,” an unmistakeable tease at the long-absent “ality.”
Brutalities in Mortal Kombat X is a virtual certainty at this point.
