Disney XD Revives DuckTales In 2017

Beginning in 1987, Disney’s DuckTales was the flagship series for what became the Disney Afternoon. 30 years later, the Disney Ducks will make a comeback on TV.

Disney XD has announced a reboot of DuckTales is coming to the network in 2017. The original DuckTales series was inspired by the classic Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comic book stories by legendary writer and artist, Carl Barks. The original DuckTales wrote Donald out of the series (although he appeared in occasional guest star) while Scrooge McDuck went on globehopping adventures with his grandnephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. The show is also fondly remembered for its catchy theme song and the DuckTales NES game that was recently remade.

For the new DuckTales, Disney’s description suggests that Donald Duck will be a main character alongside his nephews as they join Scrooge McDuck for more worldwide “high-flying adventures.”

Characters created for the original DuckTales including Launchpad McQuack, Duckworth Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack will all appear in the new series, as will other characters created by Barks. Some of the Barks characters slated to return include Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell and the infamous Beagle Boys.

The announcement was also unclear about whether the DuckTales reboot will be in traditional 2D animation or in 3D animation. But we’ll find out sometime within the next two years.
