Chyler Leigh Is Supergirl’s Older Sister on CBS

A few months ago, CBS tipped its hand regarding the Supergirl TV series by revealing a new character, Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, the older, foster sister of Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). Alex has no counterpart in the DC comic book universe, but it’s probably not a coincidence that she has “lex” in her name.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grey’s Anatomy veteran Chyler Leigh has been signed to play Alex Danvers. In Supergirl, Alex works with the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), and she was supposedly inspired to become a doctor after her lifelong fascination with Kara’s powers.

Additionally, former Homeland co-star David Harewood has been cast as DEO Director Hank Henshaw, who serves as Alex’s boss. In the Superman comics, Hank Henshaw was an astronaut who became the villainous Cyborg Superman.

The Hollywood Reporter also noted that The Flash and Arrow executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg will have the same position on Supergirl alongside Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler.

Earlier this week, Calista Flockhart was added to the cast as Cat Grant, Kara’s boss. Mehcad Brooks will play an “alpha male” Jimmy Olsen in the Supergirl series and Laura Benanti will portray Allura Zor-El, Supergirl’s Kryptonian mother.

Supergirl is expected to premiere this fall on CBS.
