Last month, word leaked that The CW is looking to expand its highly successful DC Comics one-two punch of Arrow and The Flash into a third series that would feature Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Victor Garber and Wentworth Miller reprising their roles for a superhero team up anthology.
When the currently untitled project was confirmed to exist, it was said to feature three DC heroes who had never appeared in live action before. TVLine has posted an early casting breakdown of the new roles, along with speculation about who they might be in the DC canon.
First up is “The Traveler,” a role described as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.”
TVLine suggests that the most likely character to be the Traveler is Rip Hunter (pictured above), an established time traveling hero. However, TVLIne’s predictions for the second new character don’t seem to be quite as compelling.

The site speculated that Fury or the female Wildcat could be the template for a “Female Warrior” who is a “twentysomething Latina is pretty but unassuming, book smart and socially awkward by day. But by night, when she hears the cry of battle, her fury is ignited and she becomes a fierce warrior — so much so, that sometimes she can become a threat to others.”
Finally, the third hero is an “African-American male in his twenties will fill the role of a regular, street smart guy who unexpectedly gains powers, and then, as part of the team, regularly quips about the insanity of the situations.” TVLine is suggesting that the character in question is Static, but there is already a Static Shock live action series in the works for Warner Bros.’ digital distribution that would seem to undercut this argument. Black Lightning is a more likely choice for this show.
The Flash/Arrow spinoff has not been given an official greenlight yet, but it is expected to be one of the leading contenders to make The CW’s Fall 2015 schedule.
