Now this was a strange occurrence: a new Mortal Kombat X trailer released with absolutely no teasing from Ed Boon, no hints from the Mortal Kombat Kast, and one that revealed more than we could have been prepared for.

Here are 5 things we learned from this Mortal Kombat X trailer. While one of them may be “Sonya and Johnny confirmed,” that already sort of happened thanks to an errant Amazon listing. So really, here are 5 other things we learned from the new Mortal Kombat X trailer.
5 Things We Learned from New Mortal Kombat X Trailer
5. There's Trouble in Paradise
You heard that right in the trailer. While Johnny and Sonya did get married and have a daughter, they are now divorced. While this may come as a surprise, it can only add depth and enjoyment to what is shaping up to be the best Mortal Kombat story mode ever.
Plus, sassy lines from Johnny Cage are now to increase tenfold, which is never a bad thing.
4. Sonya has Learned a Thing or Two From Johnny
It looks like Sonya may have taken half Johnny's powers in the divorce. Or he just taught her a few things about fighting. I may be mixing metaphors.
Regardless, Sonya was seen several times glowing green in Johnny's shadow form. What do you suppose NetherRealm is calling this variation of hers? Jilted Blade? Marriage in Shadows?
The real question here is whether Johnny picked up any of Sonya's abilities. Maybe her kiss fatality?
3. Kenshi is Set for A Major Role
Kenshi will be in Mortal Kombat X, another thing kind of revealed when a screenshot of him on the Mortal Kombat X mobile app leaked. But this trailer shows that he is likely a major player in the story mode.
This would make sense, given that his son, Takashi Takeda, is running around with Cassie Cage and Jaqueline Briggs. Will Jax also make an appearance? It certainly seems likely.
2. Jack Torrance Would Be the Best Guest Character
Yes, Johnny's fatality in the new Mortal Kombat X character was awesome. But wouldn't the original Johnny (no, not that one ), aka Jack Torrance from Stanley Kurbick's The Shining , be the coolest thing to happen to Mortal Kombat games in forever?
I say yes. He's the perfect example of madness. He's in a horror film that Ed Boon clearly has a thing for. The Shining was distributed by Warner Bros., which is publishing Mortal Kombat X , and that relationship is the same reason Mortal Kombat (2011) had Freddy Krueger. ... This is becoming all too plausible. The only issue is that Johnny Cage just stole his fatality.
1. Shinnok is Definitely the Final Boss
Shinnok will be in the game. He will be a big bad, and he will be the last guy you fight.
In the trailer, he's seen taking on both Sonya and Johnny cage with relative ease. This also seems to imply that you don't fight Shinnok with Johnny or Sonya in the final boss fight.
While you could easily fight Shinnok with Cassie Cage, who seems to be the defacto protagonist in Mortal Kombat X , don't be surprised to hear whispers about Liu Kang in the coming month before release.
