Last year, Friday The 13th creator Sean Cunningham signaled his intent to bring his signature franchise to television. While the project is still very early in development, Cunningham has finally explained what he has in mind.
A report on the Friday The 13th: The Film Franchise from the Monster Mania convention this past weekend included an excerpt from Cunningham’s Q&A at the con that read “Sean Cunningham confirmed interest from the CW in regards to pickup for the tv show. According to him, the basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart.
This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality as the films would be based off the real life killings that tool place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout) “

There was a Friday The 13th: The Series that ran for three seasons during the ‘80s, but it was connected to the franchise only by sharing the same name. Whereas Jason Voorhees’ cinematic rival, Freddy Kreuger had his own ‘80s TV series called Freddy’s Nightmares.
As noted in the report, the new iteration of Friday The 13th for television doesn’t currently have a network attached to the project. But given Hollywood’s obsession with remakes and brand recognition, it seems likely to eventually find a home on TV.
