Former AFL star Ben Cousins has been filmed attempting to escape police on foot, after a bizarre encounter at a Sikh temple in Perth.
CCTV footage shows Cousins sprinting away after police were called to the Gudwara Sahib temple in the Perth suburb of Canning Vale. Sikh priest Jasvinder Singh became concerned and called police when his wife saw Cousins taking photos in the grounds of the temple where they live.
He stopped his golden-brown car in the car park, he didn’t come out of the car and he started calling to someone,” Mr Singh told Fairfax Media. “After that he reversed his car over the front of my home garden in the temple”
“He called to my wife, she was outside, and she told him ‘I can’t speak English’… He took my personal car park,” Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh tried to confront Cousins, who jumped into his car, drove a few metres, and then stopped to continue taking photographs.
“I don’t know who he was…I realised something was not looking good,” Mr Singh said. “So I called the police and then I followed him again and he stopped his car in the middle of the road and then some cars almost hit him.”
The police officer then chased Cousins away on foot, catching him a few streets away after running through a number of backyards, and on to a roof.
Cousins was taken to Canning Vale police station, and then to hospital for “health assessment”.
Cousins has been noticed for his increasingly disturbing behaviour in recent weeks, having been found wandering inside an SAS barracks, and leading police on a short car chase after refusing a breath test earlier this month. He is due to appear in court on April 8 relating to the driving offence.
