The Today show’s Karl Stefanovic is no stranger to an on-air gaffe or two, but this morning he went a little close to the line (if not jumping right over it) with some Indian cricket fans.
Interviewing groups of Indian and Australian fans ahead of today’s World Cup semi final between the two nations, Stefanovic took a quick moment to put his foot in it, saying, “I was just gonna ask, who is manning the 7-Elevens today?”
Not to be outdone in the banter stakes, one of the Indian fans shot back with, “Not sure who’s gonna be manning 7-Eleven, but you might have to look at Centrelink as well I think, Karl.”
We assume Karl then threw to a commercial break so he could apply cold water to the burn that he so richly deserved.
Seems like all might be fair in love and cricket, but is there really a place for this?
