If you were one of the very few who thought that maybe – just maybe – Silent Hills could still be happening despite Hideo Kojima no longer being associated with the project and co-director Guillermo del Toro stating that it had been canned, then prepare to be disappointed as Konami has now officially confirmed that the survival-horror game will no longer be happening.

In a statement released to Kotaku, Konami said:
Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
So there you have it. Silent Hills, one of the most highly anticipated horror games ever, is no more. While Konami would be wise to capitalize on the heat surrounding the series by hurriedly working on another game, it certainly won’t be the same as the Silent Hills game we were expecting from Metal Gear Solid creator Kojima, who had seemingly nailed the tone of the series down as evidenced in the game’s quasi-demo P.T.
For Silent Hill fans and horror fans in general this is hugely disappointing news, and we can only hope that Kojima attempts to take on the horror genre in the future.
