Sydney Film Festival Goes National With Inaugural ‘SFF Presents’ Program

Sydney Film Festival is gearing up for its 2015 launch and, in good news for film buffs around the country, has today announced it’s sharing the love with the rest of Australia via the inaugural SFF Presents program. SFF Presents is set to bring a couple of festival highlights to other capital cities directly after the end of the fest.

In combination with Transmission Films, the festival will be launching the films Slow West and Strangerland at the June event before touring them to select Palace Cinemas in Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth, the first time the organisers have launched such an initiative.

Both films already have their fair share of hype, with the Michael Fassbender helmed Slow West, which also features soon to be X-Men star and Aussie Kodi Smit-McPhee, taking out the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and the Australian independant outback thriller Strangerland (check out the trailer below), starring Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving, also receiving critical acclaim since its debut, also at Sundance.

Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley called the initiative “a new approach to reaching fans of cinema.”

“Slow West and Strangerland are both great festival-quality films wider audiences will enjoy,” said Moodley. “Holding screenings across Australian capital cities immediately following Sydney Film Festival’s premiere is a wonderful new way of sharing the excitement for these films around the country.”

A handful of films for this year’s SFF have already been announced with the full program set to be released Wednesday, May 6th. Stay tuned to CraveOnline for all the details. For those super keen beans, flexipasses are on sale now via the official website.
