New Pixels Trailer Is Even More Disturbing

Look, let’s cut the shit here. Pixels is appealing in a weird campy way, but also very hokey-looking. The LEGO Movie was a good example of a film that took a beloved childhood toy, hybridized with animation and live action, and set it all to a fun script that was genuinely entertaining while playing all the right nostalgia chords. Wreck-It Ralph is another example that honors video games and what they mean to people.

Pixels looks like it’s sidestepping all of that and going straight for the ludicrous by turning beloved game characters into ultra-destructive forces to reckoned with in the real world, but still trying to hold onto the humor and lightheartedness one might expect. The thing is though, is that it looks like the movie is trying way too hard, considering the cast and what little of the script we’ve heard and seen in the trailers. Speaking of trailers, here’s number two:

If you were able to watch that without throwing up in your mouth a little bit, congratulations. You’ll perhaps be able to stomach what looks to be an insanely stupid plot, come this summer. Who knows, maybe the fantastically over-the-top action will redeem it, if only in a purely shallow manner.

Thanks to Cinema Blend for the update on Pixels.
