Netflix has become a premium destination for original series, original movies, comedy specials and documentaries. But the first Netflix original Christmas special is something completely unexpected.
Bill Murray and director Sofia Coppola are reteaming for A Very Murray Christmas, a Christmas special to be filmed later this year. Murray is set to play a fictionalized version of himself as a host of a variety show who is desperate to get guests on his Christmas special after a New York City snowstorm threatens his plans.
Coppola previously directed Murray in Lost in Translation, which led to an Oscar nomination for Murray. The special will be written by Mitch Glazer, who wrote Scrooged, another movie that starred Murray in the leading role.

A Very Murray Christmas has already lined up several guest stars including George Clooney, Paul Shaffer, Amy Poehler, Julie White, Dimitri Dimitrov, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, David Johansen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jenny Lewis, Phoenix, Frederic Moulin, Rashida Jones, and Miley Cyrus. More guest appearances are expected to be announced later.
Netflix has also released the first teaser trailer for A Very Murray Christmas.
A Very Murray Christmas will premiere this December on Netflix.
