FX Options Jason Aaron & Jason Latour’s Southern Bastards For TV

Earlier this year, FX’s Justified ended its six season run on the cable network. But FX may have another Southern crime drama to replace it.

Deadline is reporting that Scott Rudin Productions has reached a deal with FX to develop Jason Aaron and Jason Latour’s comic book series, Southern Bastards as a one-hour drama. More intriguingly, Aaron and Latour will write the television adaptation themselves and serve as executive producers on the project.

Southern Bastards was first published in 2014 by Image Comics and it follows the power struggle between a local criminal (who doubles as the head coach of a “powerhouse” high school football team) and the son of Craw County’s former sheriff.

Scott Rudin Productions is also negotiating a deal with FX to adapt City on Fire, an upcoming novel by Garth Risk Hallberg that will be published later this year.

For the hat trick, SRP also sold Adam Higginbotham’s novel, The Invisible Enemy: The Untold Story Of The Battle Of Chernobyl as a miniseries to National Geographic Channel. According to the report, the Fox-owned NatGeo is looking to greatly expand its original scripted programming.
