In 1997, Matt Stone and Trey Parker brought their unique blend of comedy to South Park, an animated series that became one of Comedy Central’s biggest hits. And it won’t be ending anytime soon.
Ahead of Comic-Con, Comedy Central has announced that South Park will get a three season pick up, in addition to the previously scheduled 19th season beginning this fall. In total, the order is for 30 episodes, with ten per season beginning in 2016 with the 20th season premiere.
As expected, Parker and Stone will remain with the show as writers, directors, editors, and stars through the 23rd season of South Park. The deal will bring South Park up to 304 episodes, reaffirming its status as one of the longest running animated comedies of all time.
Additionally, Hulu is updating its deal with South Park Digital Studios to retain the streaming rights for the additional seasons of South Park.
Comedy Central has scheduled South Park Season 19 to premiere on September 16.
