Hannibal may have been cancelled after Season 3, but that had no effect on the fan enthusiasm at Comic-Con 2015. We sat down with showrunner Bryan Fuller and executive producer Martha De Laurentiis in front of throng of eager “fannibals” to talk about the series finale, which De Laurentiis calls “the best cliffhanger you’ll ever see.“
But what does the future hold for Hannibal? Fuller and De Laurentiis tell Crave’s William Bibbiani that it’s unlikely the series will continue on television, but that they are very excited for the prospect of a new feature film that would continue the events of the show. But with Red Dragon, Hannibal and Hannibal Rising already adapted in the series, and the rights to The Silence of the Lambs still unavailable, what could the film possibly be about?
“There’s actually a pocket in one of the novels that I won’t say specifically,“ Fuller teases, “Because it would betray the end of Season 3 events, but there’s something that hasn’t been done that we would love to do with Mads and Hugh, and incarnations of their characters, that I think would be a really fascinating psychological thriller.”
Fuller goes on to explain that the film’s storyline would be “this thing from the books that I find fascinating and earned that nobody has done in the previous adaptations.”

Fannibals who are looking to get their Hannibal fix elsewhere might have some hope in the form of Bryan Fuller’s next television series, American Gods, based on the best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman. Fuller tells us in this exclusive video that he’s hoping to reunite some of the cast of Hannibal in the new show.
“What’s great about is there are so many characters in American Gods, and so many gods to explore, that yeah, I’m hoping that we get to get all sorts of folks in there. Caroline [Dhavernas], we’d love to get Mads [Mikkelsen] and Hugh [Dancy] in there, I’d love to get Gillian [Anderson] and Richard [Armitage]. I’m going to try to get everybody in there one way or another.”
What’s more, it looks like Fuller is going to have very few restrictions on American Gods, because the budget for the new series is enormous.
“The budget we have is twice as much as anything I’ve ever had before,“ Fuller says. “It’s actually over twice as much. The studio and the network are so enthusiastic about it. They realize what a special property it is and at this point they’re sparing no expense.”
