Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is teaming up with directors David Fincher and Julie Taymor for a Broadway-bound adaptation of the film Fight Club.
As reported by Consequence Of Sound, the news was confirmed by Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk during a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. He said that there wasn’t a sequel to the Brad Pitt-featuring film on the way, but there was a musical being produced by Fincher and Taymor that could be headed to Broadway.
“Julie Taymor working with David Fincher on a FIGHT CLUB rock opera? You didn’t hear it from me. :)” he also wrote in a since-deleted tweet on the day of the panel (via /Film).
Journalist Jeff Goldsmith also tweeted that Palahniuk told him Reznor and Finch were working on the “rock opera – an enhanced version of the film!” The tweet was later retweeted by Palahniuk.
Fincher has been talking about the project since 2008. “One of the things I want at the 10-year anniversary is to do “Fight Club” as a musical on Broadway. I love the idea of that,” he told MTV.
It’s been more than fifteen years now since the Fight Club movie was released, but it really does look like the musical is actually on the way now.
Reznor and Fincher have worked together on a number of films including The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl but this will be the first time they have entered into the world of Broadway together. Meanwhile, Taymor is behind the hugely-successful musical adaptation of The Lion King.
