Australia’s fifth Prime Minister in as many years, Malcolm Turnbull, is already the subject of some pretty on point parody accounts across social media, led by two front-runners called Texts From Malcolm and Hot Malcolm.
Instagram account Texts From Malcolm has been up and running for a few months, but has been having a field day ever since Turnbull ousted former Prime Minister Tony Abbott in a Liberal Party ballot earlier this week.
Essentially, Texts From Malcolm imagines what Australia’s tech-savvy new PM is actually writing when he’s tapping away at his phone in parliament. Whether he’s dissing Aussie NFL player Jarryd Hayne, throwing shade at Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey or replying to Hillary Clinton’s texts, our Malcolm is rockin’ his too-cool-for-law-school vibe.
Here are a few of our favourite Texts From Malcolm from the past week:
Texts From Malcolm, whose bio says it exists “because Tony Abbott doesn’t have opposable thumbs”, also references another Instagram account called Hot Malcolm. Take a look:
Hot Malcolm, while not strictly a parody account, does show you what it would be like if our new PM was constantly posting photos of himself looking suave. The account originally caught the internet’s eyeballs back when it was called Tony Abbott Eats, and dedicated itself to posting photos of the former PM eating everything from sausages to children. Oh and onions, of course.
Nowadays, the account is pumping out photos of Turnbull looking his best. “You also think he’s a bit hot. Stop denying it,” reads the accounts bio. Here are some of our favourites:
Elsewhere in the land of political social media fun times, former WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan has been trolled into sending Tony Abbott his support by a cunning Twitter user.
There’s also a new mashup (below) which reimagines the opening credits of Malcolm In The Middle using Mr Turnball himself. God bless the internet.
