Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, is officially in control of every aspect of Britney’s life. Although Britney Spears is almost 30 years old, she is legally considered a child in the eyes of the court. Access Hollywood reports:
Court papers were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, making a judge’s October ruling (which made the conservatorship over Britney permanent) official. The conservatorship over the pop star legally began on January 5, 2009. The agreement gives permanent control of the pop star’s finances to her father, Jamie Spears, along with attorney Andrew Wallet. While Jamie is sole conservator over Britney’s personal matters. In the papers pertaining to Britney’s financial matters, it states Britney “is substantially unable to manage … her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence.” When it comes to control over Britney, herself, the papers state the star “is unable properly to provide for his or her personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.” The personal order also gives Jamie Spears “the power to restrict and limit visitors by any means.”
I only mention this, because if you recall, Britney fought the conservatorship for a while, then seemingly agreed to it over night. Gee, I wonder what happened?
OK! has learned exclusivly the extraordinary price the singer is paying for her comeback, voluntarily giving up the fight to regain custody of her boys in exchange for fame. Last fall, as her upcoming concert tour was being organized, Brit’s camp discovered that because of the star’s history, they could not purchase insurance to cover her tour unless she was still under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears. Until that point, the plan was for the conservatorship to be lifted on Dec. 31, followed by Britney, 27, heading to family court with a petition to regain custody of Preston and Jayden. But an insider tells OK!, “The insurance situation changed everything.” And so, on Oct. 28, the singer agreed to indefinitely accept her father as her conservator–a decision which meant she would still legally be considered a child. No judge would give her custody of her kids, nor would her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, agree to it. “Whether it was her decision or whether she was pressured into it, Britney’s deal with the devil put the tour ahead of the kids,” the insider tells OK!.
Whatever. Let’s don’t kid ourselves and say it isn’t better this way. Britney doesn’t need to have custody of anything, much less kids. Trust me, it wouldn’t turn out well. Sean Preston is a cute kid, so I’d hate to see him twenty years from now come back from Africa to reject human society and return to the jungle as a heroic adventurer all because Britney took a wrong turn driving him to kndergarten.
