2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept Wows Monterey

With the 2016 editions of Monterey Car Week, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the books, Crave was on the scene to explore the worlds of elite classic automobiles and modern super cars.

Each year, the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance offers The Concept Lawn – a stretch of well-manicured, but eventually well-trodden stretch of sod running alongside the gift shops of the Pebble Beach Golf Links. A few holes’ walk from the enclave of classic cars from the last century, the Concept Lawn looks only to the future.minority

Elite automakers from around the world bring their most futuristic designs to that lawn to show what the supercars of tomorrow might look like. Very few of them will ever be built, so it’s a sort of dream realm — a portal into the future of aspirational cars. This year, Mercedes-Benz polished up the shiniest portal at Pebble with the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6

This massive coupe is an obvious show car — an effort to blend the classic look of decades past with the technology of the near future. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 would be an electric car — and easily the biggest girl on the team with a length of more than 18.5-feet in length.

This massive coupe is an obvious show car — an effort to blend the classic look of decades past with the technology of the near future. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 would be an electric car — and easily the biggest girl on the no fossil fuels team with a length of more than 18.5 feet.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the car’s drive system has an output of 550. While a top speed from that power plant is not listed for the car, the automaker says the battery power will last for more than 200 miles.

The technological and engineering bells and whistles are well and good, but the story about this car is its styling. While their cars can be fun to drive, Mercedes-Benz isn’t known for its whimsy or playfulness. It’s hard to deny there’s a lot of attitude about this car.

On the Concept Lawn, most visitors raved about its throwback elegance and bold colors. A minority said it looks like one of Ronald McDonald’s shoes. If we judge the verdict by how many people gathered around it at Pebble Beach, the styling is a runaway success.
