Maison & Objet | Crizu Transforms Books Into Literary Sculptures & Jewelry

Mother and daughter team CRIZU hail from Milan and with them they’ve brought a unique approach to preserving the classics. Named after the matriarch of the design brand, Christine, Crizu is a concept that transforms classic books into visual works of art.

“The pages are folded into design pieces. It usually takes a day,” says Crizu. When asked how they’ve gotten the knack of rendering these impressive works so quickly, she answers, “We’ve been doing so many, it’s only natural.”

The works ultimately end up looking like sculptures while still preserving the integrity of the book itself. Originally mom’s idea, the dream to transform literary works of art into visual works of art struck a chord with the daughter.

Now the collection has grown legs, including pieces of jewelry, like earrings and rings featuring folded and cut pieces of text and coupled with various gemstones.
