The announcement earlier this week that Sunnyboy ice blocks are now discontinued was a kick in the teeth for anyone whose school lunchtime experience was made that little bit sweeter by one of Australia’s favourite cold treats.
Now, a bunch of people have taken to Change.org to start petitions to bring it back, and they’re already gaining supporters as they try to #BringBackTheSunnyboy.
A petition started by Mymuna Islam puts its goal simply as, “Yesterday, millions of people around Australia had to hear the heartfelt decision of having a stop to Sunnyboys, we want to bring them back.”
“Australian summer will never be the same again. Now that our beloved Sunnyboy’s production has been ceased,” says another petition, started by Alex P from Melbourne. “I don’t know about you but this is an utter disgrace and simply an abomination. This summer treat will never be available again and we Australians need to do something about it!”
A third petition started by user Tal Zwikael implores anyone who has the memory of “borrowing that last 50 cent coin to buy a Sunnyboy on a 35°C day from your school tuckshop” to help “take back what was taken away from us!”
Maybe, just maybe – the Daily Drinks Co. will reconsider their decision. We promise we won’t take Sunnyboys for granted ever again!
