Salt Bae Meme Chef is Opening Up a Restaurant in London

The chef who originated the hugely popular Salt Bae meme is set to open up a restaurant in London.

Turkish head chef Nusret Gökçe went viral earlier this year after posting an Instagram video of him sprinkling salt on some steak, with his questionably sultry approach to seasoning his meat instantly becoming a hit online. Now Gökçe will bring his talents to the UK, with him telling Turkish newspaper Hurriyet that he will open up chains of his Nusr-et grill house in both London and New York in the coming months.

The Salt Bae meme has spread far and wide since Gökçe posted the video, with it having been painted on a wall in Melbourne while Rihanna was also photographed wearing a t-shirt with Gökçe’s face printed on it. Discussing his famous salt-sprinkling method, Gökçe said: “I did not do that to show off. It is just my signature. You can think of it as a kind of final touch for a painting. It was a final touch to the meat; I was blessing the meat.”

Well now it looks like he’ll be blessing his meat in the UK from here on out, sprinkling his salt in the English capital.

While the language of salt-sprinkling is universal, Gökçe has stated that he does not know any other languages besides Turkish. However, he believes that he will be able to overcome this obstacle as he can “communicate with people through meat.”

Is this going to be the best restaurant ever? Probably.
