The ninth edition of the Northside Festival, Brooklyn, kicks off on June 7, offering five days of programming around music, innovation, and the arts. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which spans small clubs, outdoor spaces, and boutique hotels spread throughout the Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick neighborhoods of the borough.

Creative Trends Influencing Design in 2017

Shortform as Entertainment: Creating Visually Engaging Micro Content with GIFs
2017 is the 30th anniversary of the GIF, the much beloved animated image that has become the centerpiece of the action-meme. Jason Kuperman and Outfront Media and David Rosenberg of GIPHY will discuss how to use the GIF to greatest result, as images speak a thousand words in every language without ever making a sound. Jewelry designer, sculptor, product designer, and 3D moderler Max Steiner and fashion designer Emma Berg host a 5.5-hour symposium and demonstration of their works. Where & When: Friday, June 9 at 12:00 PM at the TNT Backstory Studio at Kinfolk 90.
Bedford Avenue Block Party
To cap off the festivities, on Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, Bedford Avenue will be transformed into a public park stretching all the way from Metropolitan Avenue to North 12th Street. The block party will feature temporary wall units, interactive installations, and sculptures from artists including Nyssa Frank, Occupy Art, Stickymonger & Andrea Tang, El Museo de Los Sures, Hiromi Niizeki, Peter Kato, Taezoo Park, J.H.S. 291 Roland Hayes & TalkingWalls Collaborative, and Shoe String Press.
Highlights include the Brooklyn Draw Jam, a free collaborative drawing event; live painting events with Colombian artist Chinòn Maria, British artist Scott Walker, American artists Ian Ferguson aka HYDEON, Jade Kuel aka MUMBOT, Natalie Lucre, Kelly Denato, Jacob Thomas, and Stephen Faillace; a meditative drawing session with Zoey Hart; and a live poetry reading by Francesca Marguerite Maximé.
