This ‘Home Alone’ Style Security System Is So Hilariously Bad It May Just Work

Remember in Home Alone when Kevin McCallister thinks up an idea to throw off Harry and Marv by pretending to have a party with a bunch of people?

Well that’s essentially what a landlord in Tokyo wants to do to help people feel more safe in their home.

According to Gizmodo, the Man on the Curtain system was thought up and created by Leopalace21. It’s pretty much uses a projection of “people” doing activities so that would-be burglars will believe someone is home, thus robbing your neighbor instead of you. Take a look at the video below to see it in action:

I mean, it’s sort of convincing, right? Because everyone enjoys doing random activities in front of their curtains. It’s the norm.  Especially karate. Although, I’m not sure anyone who knows me would be convinced that I’m actually vacuuming.

Each black and white video, which is played through a smartphone-connected projector, includes a full half-hour of original footage so as to minimize obvious looping that could give away the ruse. However, someone practicing karate or boxing for 30 minutes feels a little forced.

Footage more mundane routines, like vacuuming or folding laundry, seems like it would be far more plausible and convincing.

If you have 30 plus minutes to spare, and want to avoid work, skim through some of the projections at your disposal if you ever get your paws on this system.

While the product isn’t for sale yet, prototypes have already been handed out. If you’re looking for  cheaper alternatives you can always instead use one of these security options instead:

  1. Have 911 on speed dial.
  2. Keep a bat near your pillow.
  3. Don’t be afraid to shriek.
  4. Hire a security guard on Craigslist
  5. Adopt a large dog or just a really scary cat.
