It will be yet another exciting week for skygazers as they will see the fourth and final supermoon of 2024. The moon will appear bigger and brighter than usual in the night sky as it appears closer to the planet. A supermoon phenomenon occurs when a full moon reaches its closest point in its orbit, called a perigee, around Earth. Here is a look at the date and time for the final supermoon of the year.
When & how can you watch the final supermoon of 2024?
According to Farmer’s Almanac, the final supermoon of 2024 will reach its peak illumination on Friday, November 15, at 4:29 p.m. EST. This is the final one of this year’s four consecutive supermoons. As per experts, this phenomenon is called a “Beaver Moon.” This because it is the time of the year when beavers take shelter ahead of the long winter after stocking up sufficient food. Also, during this season, beavers would be hunted for their thick pelts during the fur trade in North America.
Farmer’s Almanac notes in another report that the moon will be 224,853 miles (361,866 kilometers) from Earth this month. The celestial body was at its closest proximity to the planet last month during the Full Hunter Moon (222,055 miles). Thus, November’s full Beaver Supermoon is an unmissable event. Also, next year will bring three supermoons in a row, beginning in October.
Earlier this year, astronomy enthusiasts also enjoyed a rare multifaceted celestial event. The September Harvest Moon coincided with a supermoon, a blood moon, and a partial lunar eclipse. It was an exceptional sighting as it is rare for all three events to occur at the same time. Now, skygazers are in for another exciting celestial event before this year ends. With the date and time of the final Supermoon of 2024 announced, it will be an exciting event to witness.
