Chilean Wine from Casillero del Diablo Haunts Your Glass

The leaves are starting to turn, the air is turning crisp, and it’s time to start thinking about Halloween costumes and magic brew’s.

Chilean winery Casillero del Diablo, literally, the Devil’s Cellar, has three terrific wines to complement any Halloween party. The label’s name comes from a true story going back 120 years and still lives on today. Don Melchior, founder of Concha y Toro winery kept his best wines under lock and key, but discovered some were going missing. In an attempt to deter the thieves, he created the legend that the Devil lived in his wine cellar, and made sure it circulated in the area.

These three reds are affordable, but not the cheapest bottle in the bin, and very accessible. The Carmenère, is a mix of berry flavors and mocha, with a subtle spiciness; a good match for chili or a plate of jalapeno-topped nachos.

Casillero del Diablo’s Cabernet Sauvignon is bold and full of cassis and black cherry notes — perfect for bowls of rich beef stews, or light party snacks.

The Merlot is a soft red, immediately drinkable, and the best all-rounder to please all but those hard-core Cab-Sav lovers. It pairs nicely with meats and cheeses as well as lighter nibbles.

All three wines are a great bunch to keep on hand for last-minute parties, invites, and quiet nights by the fire.
