Up Your Champagne Game This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s a day filled with chocolates and love notes. But, if you really want to up your game, you’ll pick out the perfect champagne to toast with that special someone. How does one go about picking the best champagne in a veritable sea of sparkling wines?

Champagne could be enjoyed every day of the year, but nothing says “Be Mine” like cracking open a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage. “Both the pink label and the deep scarlet color certainly make a statement, and nothing says romance better than champagne,” says Cécile Bonnefond, CEO of Piper-Heidseick.

Florens-Louis Heidsieck, originally a cloth merchant from Germany, fell in love with champagne and the region and decided to try his hand in the winemaking business. In 1785, he created the first Piper-Heidsieck cuvee, setting out to make a wine “worthy of a queen”. “It is said that he received the honor of personally presenting his wine to Queen Marie Antoinette, and his champagne quickly garnered favor amongst prominent figures in the art, fashion, film and design worlds.”

“Sauvage” means “wild” in French – a nod to the vibrant, scarlet pink hue of the liquid – a bold and unusual color for a rosé champagne. “The Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage is made from the same award-winning blend as Piper-Heidsieck Brut NV, with the addition of red wines from the Côte des Bar. It has a sumptuously fruity nose and rich mouth-feel with notes of black cherry, black currant, pink grapefruit and blood orange.”

Bonnefond says that the best way to enjoy Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage is surrounded by great company and while enjoying a great meal. “Drink the champagne from a white wine glass so that all your senses can be elevated by the character of the rosé.”

Rosé Sauvage, because of its notes of black cherry, black currant and pink grapefruit, pairs perfectly with a wide range of foods. “Especially Serrano ham and Japanese raw fish for small bites.” She adds, “Rack of lamb and dishes like duck l’orange are wonderful options too, and for later in the meal, peach crumble, blueberry tart or raspberry macaroons.”

Our champagnes are an invitation to celebrate life and the emotions that make life grand. It is only natural for us to celebrate moments in cinema that are being honored for their grand and bold endeavors.”

As part of this partnership, Champagne Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut and Rosé Sauvage will be featured as the exclusive champagne of the Academy Awards and will be served during the pre-show. “Piper-Heidsieck will also help create a rare moment of elegance and high emotion by serving Piper-Heidsieck Prestige Cuvée Rare at the prestigious Governors Ball, the Academy’s official post-Oscars celebration.”
