Marvel’s X-Men Become Extraordinary Next Fall

After Secret Wars ends, the new era for the X-Men is going to be… Extraordinary.

Marvel has announced that the new flagship title for the X-Men franchise will be called Extraordinary X-Men. The series will launch this fall with writer Jeff Lemire and artist Humberto Ramos. Extraordinary X-Men will take place eight months after Secret Wars, after a conflict between the Inhumans and the Mutants leads to a major shakeup among the X-Men.

Several prominent X-Men like Cyclops will be missing in action. The new team consists of Storm, Colossus, Magik, Nightcrawler, and Iceman, with the teenage Jean Grey from All-New X-Men and Old Man Logan, the aged Wolverine from an alternate timeline who will apparently be sticking around in the Marvel Universe once Secret Wars comes to a conclusion.

“The chance to write the flagship X-Men book is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Lemire in a statement. “It’s both exhilarating and somewhat intimidating. The X-Men have a staggering legacy and an extremely devoted fan base, so this is not an assignment I am taking lightly. I’ve poured everything I have into making this book something special. I don’t want to write just another X-Men run. I want the work Humberto and I do to stand up with the truly great X-Men runs.”
