It’s Morphin’ Time, comic book fans!
Ahead of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, BOOM! Studios has announced that it has picked up the comic book rights for Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, the first incarnation of the long-running Power Ranger TV series that launched in 1993.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, BOOM! revealed that the new Power Rangers title will focus on the six original Rangers: Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, Billy, and Tommy. Additionally, BOOM! will be offering six one-page comics at Comic-Con that spotlight each individual Ranger.

Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Witchblade) wrote the Power Rangers one-page stories for BOOM! alongside artist Daniel Bayliss (Translucid), which can also be read together as a six page story. Goñi Montes (RoboCop) is also providing pinup art for the Power Ranger Comic-Con previews.
“We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” said Matt Gagnon, BOOM! Studios’ editor-in-chief. “We can’t give too much away just yet, but the story we’re kicking off with is vast in scope. Fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here.”
The report noted that BOOM! will reveal the rest of its Power Ranger plans at a later date. The Power Rangers comic licence was most recently held by Paper Cutz, but the very first Power Ranger comics were released through Marvel in the ‘90s.
