Samsung have thrown down the gauntlet ahead of the impending release of the iPhone 6S (or whatever Apple plan to call their new smartphone), unveiling both the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5.
The devices are the respective successors of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 4, and each of them boast a 5.7-inch display with a Quad HD Super AMOLED 2560×1440 resolution, meaning that they are capable of recording video in 4K and also take some pretty beautiful photos, too. They also each have a nifty little button that allows them to livestream directly to YouTube, if you’re the kind of person who really wants to show the world footage of you eating a sandwich as and when it happens.
Underneath the hood each phone has a hefty 4GB of RAM allowing them to run as smooth as butter, along with a 3000mAh battery. Both smartphones are very similar, then, but with slight changes that are tailored to suit two different types of users – the S6 Edge+ and its semi-curved screen are more well-equipped to deal with users who want to use their phone as a multimedia device, while the Note 5 has been built with those who use their phone for business purposes in mind, with it coming equipped with a stylus that slots into its chassis. It’s also now designed with metallic edges and a glass back, in order to give it a more premium style, along with it having a keyboard attachment that slots onto the phone’s display, in case you wanted to essentially turn it into a Blackberry.
With Samsung’s mobile division having faltered in recent years thanks to Apple moving in on their territory with the iPhone 6’s larger screen, the company is therefore looking to get the jump on their rivals with this new announcement, as the iPhone 6S is expected to release in September. Meanwhile, Samsung has announced that pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5 will begin on August 13th, with the device officially going on sale on the 21st.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 was a marvellous smartphone that saw Samsung back at the top of their game after the disappointing S5. If you’re into bigger smartphones and would pay extra for the ultra HD video and photo capabilities, then the S6 Edge+ and Note 5 should definitely be on your radar.
