T0 stand out amidst the fleet of electric personal mobility vehicles coming out of CES 2016, it helps if a manufacturer can offer something different. The competition is fierce, and you can’t break out from the pack with just another rechargeable urban transport machine.
Bay Area-based Mahindra set its new GenZe 2.0 Electric Two Wheel Scooter apart by going big and building in the vehicle class’ first interactive app to add functionality.

The GenZe 2.0 is easily the biggest rechargeable vehicle at CES 2016. It’s also the heaviest (232 pounds), the fastest (top speed of 30 mph) and the most expensive ($2,999). Unlike its smaller rivals, the GenZe 2.0 can carry cargo in three ways and transport a maximum weight of 304 pounds.
With a range of 30 miles after a 3.5 hour charged, this scooter is a much more serious, street-legal vehicle with the ability to make full urban commutes. Regenerative braking partially charges the 1.6 kilowatt battery at every stop to extend the range. An onboard, 7 inch Control Center displays speed, range, charge level, etc.
Since it aspires to be much more than a commuter’s toy, the GenZe 2.0 teams with the company’s own free app for before and after rides. On their smartphone, owners can check weather data, plan routes, traffic problems and other potential safety concerns.
Of course, those are the functions a car’s in-dash infotainment system delivers these days. Obviously, a scooter like the GenZe 2.0 is too small to carry all of that onboard kick within its 7 inch screen — so its designers port4d those functions off to the app.
The GenZe 2.0 is making its sales debut currently in the Bay Area and will go wide later this year. The company promises to produce more accessories for buyers in the months to come.
