What do you do when you want to spruce up an already beautiful city during those more drab winter months? You fill it with light.
Of course, not just any light suits London. Instead, event producers Artichoke and the office of the Mayor of London assembled Lumiere London – a festival of illumination that looks to “re-imagine London’s urban landscape and architecture in 30 artworks.”
The installations from international artists and designers all look to utilize light and movement to interact with their London environments. In total, 30 artworks await in King’s Cross, Mayfair, Grosvenor Square, Piccadilly, Regent Street, Leicester Square, St James’s, Trafalgar Square and Westminster. Basically, anywhere the London travel would go, light and art awaits.

The creators involved forge a mix of artists, designers and other specialists — all looking to take advantage of their unique London canvas and the environments different areas of the city provide. Visitors can download a map including a listing of all installations, the artists involved and suggested walking routes via the event’s website.
The event runs this weekend through July 17th, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. each night. The art installations are free to view wherever life and light may find you.
