Captain Marvel has saved the universe before, but she may not get the chance to do it again in Avengers: Doomsday, at least not yet. A prominent industry insider has stepped in with an answer, and it is not the one Brie Larson was willing to give.
Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel rumored to miss out on Avengers: Doomsday for now
Brie Larson recently declined to confirm whether she will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, and industry insider Daniel Richtman claims she is currently not in the film. Richtman posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Larson “is not in it currently,” adding that reshoots could still change her status.
Marvel Studios has made no official announcement regarding Larson’s involvement in either upcoming Avengers film.
Larson was asked about Carol Danvers’ whereabouts during Doomsday in an interview with Entertainment Tonight yesterday. “Oh, you know that I can’t talk about that,” she told the outlet, adding, “Nice try.” The interview took place in Japan, where Larson was promoting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in which she voices Rosalina.
Carol Danvers last appeared in the MCU at the end of The Marvels, moving into Monica Rambeau’s vacant home on Earth. Kamala Khan and her family helped with the move, and Carol brought the alien Flerken Goose along with her. Teyonah Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau, has also not received confirmation for Doomsday or Secret Wars.
Kelsey Grammer has confirmed his return as Hank McCoy/Beast in Doomsday. Beast appeared alongside Monica Rambeau in an alternate universe during The Marvels post-credits scene. His confirmed involvement makes a Monica reference in the film likely.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027. Larson has played Carol Danvers since 2019’s Captain Marvel, reprising the role in Endgame, The Marvels, and in cameos across Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel. The report noted reshoots remain a possibility for her inclusion.
