Marvel Studios appears to be steering clear of one of Spider-Man‘s lore’s more unsettling transformations in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to a new report, producers have opted against including the Man-Spider mutation in the July release.
Why Spider-Man may not turn into Man-Spider in Brand New Day
The question came up during a recent Discord Q&A session hosted by Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus. Perez, who fielded questions about various Marvel Studios projects, including VisionQuest, Wolverine, and X-Men, addressed a fan inquiry asking whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day would have a full Man-Spider transformation or simply show increased aggression from Peter Parker.
The scooper responded, “I have heard about the concept of Man-Spider, but certain producers have expressed concern about how family audiences will react to an 8-legged monster appearing in the movie,” Perez stated. “So last I heard, they don’t want to do that.”
For those unfamiliar, the Man-Spider is a mutated version of the character that manifests as a monstrous arachnid creature. The form appeared in Marvel comics and the ’90s animated TV show, where the character was voiced by Jim Cummings. The visual of Peter Parker transforming into a multi-limbed creature remains one of the contested plot points in the upcoming movie.
Moreover, the reported omission suggests Spider-Man: Brand New Day will prioritize the emotional arc established in No Way Home, where Doctor Strange’s spell erased Peter Parker from the memories of everyone he loves. The official synopsis confirms the hero operates in a world where “Peter Parker is no more,” even as Spider-Man continues protecting New York City.
With Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink all confirmed for the cast, the film already carries substantial narrative weight. The first trailer teased an appearance from Bruce Banner alongside Peter’s strained interactions with MJ and Ned, who no longer recognize him.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
