Ed Sheeran has been announced as the final headline act for this year’s Glastonbury Festival, with the singer songwriter set to take to the Pyramid stage on the Sunday.
Sheeran will bookend what has transformed into a weird lineup for headliners, with Radiohead set to play the Pyramid on the Friday before the Foo Fighters’ performance on the Saturday. This will be the third time that Sheeran has played the festival, after debuting on the BBC Introducing stage in 2011 and taking to the Pyramid stage in 2014.
Sheeran made the announcement on Instagram, alongside a fitting backdrop of a herd of cows:
Sheeran’s enjoyed a successful year so far, with his latest album Divide providing to be a record-breaking success. With nine of the album’s tracks appearing in the UK Top 10 chart, Sheeran also made history across the globe, with 18 tracks charting in Australia’s Top 100 — the first time any living artist has done so.
With this success in mind we’re sure that many will be happy to see Ed Sheeran headline the festival, though some will undoubtedly be upset that this means the rumoured Pink Floyd Glasto reunion is off the cards. The singer has also unfavourably been compared to his fellow headliners, with many pointing out the sizeable gap in quality between the trio of acts:

Glastonbury Festival 2017 will take place from June 21 – 25 at its regular home of Worthy Farm.
