A couple of months ago we told you folks about a hunter that may have been eaten by crocodiles. And not many folks felt bad for him. Well, we have another hunter-related death, as a South African hunter was crushed to death by an elephant after the elephant was shot.

Theunis Botha was leading a hunt in Gwai, Zimbabwe, when they ran into a herd of elephants, as well as some pregnant cows. All of a sudden three elephants stampeded towards the group of hunters, which prompted Botha to open fire with his rifle. And well, that only prompted a fourth elephant to rush in on the hunters and lift up the 51-year-old with her trunk.

And here is where it gets more bizarre. Another hunter, in order to save Botha, fatally shot the elephant who had a hold of Botha. And well, the elephant was killed, but it collapsed on top of Botha, crushing him to death.

Botha was pretty well known in the hunting community, as he usually led lion and leopard hunting safari trips. Botha also traveled to the US in order to find rich folks to take part in trophy hunting. So Botha was kind of an a-hole.

While other hunters offered their condolences to Botha’s family, folks who are against hunting weren’t exactly filled with sympathy.

And while I do feel sorry for his family, it’s tough to feel bad for some dude who was just passionate about killing animals.
