So, what has your dog done lately?

Let’s all talk about a Golden Retriever named Kenyon. Kenyon is in the news because he was recently digging up something in the backyard of his owners house. Kenyon’s owners thought he had dug up a time capsule in their backyard, but they instead learned that Kenyon has dug up black tar heroin — $85,000 worth of it. Yep.

Here’s how the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office described it on Facebook.

“Kenyon’s owners, who wish to remain anonymous, thought Kenyon had located a time capsule buried by the previous homeowners and for posterity sake they video-taped themselves opening it. Once opened, they quickly learned it was not a time capsule but more likely some type of controlled substance. Kenyon’s owners then contacted law enforcement and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office arrived and identified the substance as over 15 ounces of black tar heroin.

Sheriff Tim Svenson praised Kenyon for his backyard discovery and said, “Opioid addiction and overdose deaths are on the rise and with the help of Kenyon this large quantity of heroin is removed from our community”. Sheriff Svenson presented Kenyon with an official Yamhill County K-9 citation ribbon and named him an honorary narcotics K-9 for life.

So Kenyon was named an honorary narcotics K-9 for life. Now that’s a big deal in a dog’s life, right?

Kudos, Kenyon.
