A new app available for iPhone is allowing users to trim fat away from their “selfies”, and has inevitably courted controversy for doing so.
SkinneePix, an app created by the company Pretty Smart Women, allows users to decide whether they want to remove 5, 10 or 15lbs of fat from their self-portrait photos, thus giving them a more slender appearance.
The app is coming under fire for its support of a more idealistic portrayal of beauty, but with many apps already allowing users to tinker with their photos until they’re barely recognizable, it was really only a matter of time until an app would allow us to make ourselves look thinner.
Below is a photo of The Young Turks‘ host Cenk Uygur using the app…
…and here’s TYT host Ana Kasparian doing the same.
The app is available for $0.99 on the App Store. Co-creator Susan Green told the LA Times that the app is intended to be a fun and “playful” app for people who do not like how they look in photos.
