Otakuthon 2016 Kicks Off In Montreal This Weekend

Otakuthon, Quebec’s largest festival celebrating Japanese animation (anime), graphic novels (manga), gaming, and pop culture, is a first of its kind in Montreal.

Otakuthon is a full-fledged, fan-run, bilingual anime convention that features a number of special guests as well as many activities and events spotlighting anime, manga, video games, artwork, and Japanese culture. This year, special guests include author Mel Gosselin, Savannah Houston-McIntyre and Andrew Hewitt of the Amya Chronicles, artist Jayd “Chira” Ait-Kaci, gaming developer Johannes Helgeson, and illustrator and comic artist Joodlez. The 404s, Arashi Daiko and L’Orchestre de Jeux Vidéo will also be performing throughout the three-day event. There are a number of activities going on as well: a masquerade, cosplay chess, the World Cosplay Summit, and the always-popular Otakuthon AMV (anime music video) Contest Screening, which will be presenting the top entries of each category of the Otakuthon AMV Contest.

It runs from August 5-7 at Palais des Congres. Tickets can be purchased here.
